Our History

Founded in 1888, University Heights is one of San Diego’s oldest communities and home to the original site of San Diego State University, Mission Cliff Gardens, Bentley’s Ostrich Farm, the San Diego Silk Mill and much more.

What People Are Saying

“The only reasons that we live in University Heights are its historic homes and historical impact. We are so grateful to the University Heights Historical Society for their work to preserve local history and to bring greater awareness to these precious resources that many other neighborhoods lack. We hope that through continued support of UHHS, more of these important resources can be saved to preserve our neighborhood’s rare character. We are lucky to live here and to have UHHS.”

“Living in a 1980s subdivision of San Diego, I have a great appreciation for the historic communities whose residents work so hard to preserve the remaining tangible elements of San Diego’s architectural history. Thank you to UHHS for your efforts to honor the history of your neighborhood. It is my pleasure to support you. ”

“A year doesn’t go by that I haven’t learned more and more about the history of University Heights. The more I learn, the more I love the neighborhood! The University Heights Historic Society has been a major part in increasing my knowledge and appreciation of the neighborhood. Everywhere I walk or bike in the neighborhood, I am reminded of its history. Thanks UHHS!”
