Historic Gate and Railing Replaced Without Permit

Sadly, the historically-designated gate and wood railing atop the cobblestone wall west of Mission Cliff Drive was replaced by the owner of 1608 Mission Cliff Drive. According to the City of San Diego Development Services Department, this work was not properly permitted. The University Heights Historical Society and Save Our Heritage Organization have both filed a request for investigation by the City of San Diego Code Enforcement Department.

The cobblestone wall, wood railing and gates along Adams Avenue from Park Blvd. west to the dead end are all historic resources, designated through the efforts of the University Heights Historical Society. These historic treasures were all constructed by Mission Cliff Gardens Park Superintendent, John Davidson, in the early 20th century.

The University Heights Historical Society will continue to work with Save Our Heritage Organization to seek an appropriate remedy to this unfortunate situation. Members of the community are also encouraged to request an investigation by the City of San Diego Code Enforcement Department by clicking here.
