Help Us Raise $600 for New Self-Guided Walking Tours

Like everyone, the pandemic has required that we be a little more creative in finding safe ways to educate the public about our community's significant history. With your support, we would like to raise $600 to design and print some new self-guided walking tours of University Heights including:

  • Self-Guided Walking Tour of Historic Churches in University Heights. This tour was originally written in 1998 by historian Alex Bevil and historic preservation advocate, Ernestine Bonn.

  • Self-Guided Walking Tour of Historic Normal School Site. Built on Normal Street and Campus Avenue in 1898, the Normal School is where San Diego State University first began.

  • Self-Guided Walking Tour of Historic Bungalow Courts in University Heights. University Heights is home to over 70 bungalow courts, San Diego's original transit-oriented, affordable housing.

Printed brochures will be available for sale on our website when completed. Those donating $15 or more will receive a free copy of the brochure of their choice.

As a grassroots organization, we depend on the community's support to fulfill our mission. As a 501(c)(3) organization, contributions to the University Heights Historical Society are tax-deductible, to the extent provided by law. And new members receive a free copy of our Self-Guided Walking Tour of Valle Vista Terrace Historic District.
